Today's post features four different spaces designed by Tracery Interiors: a beach house in Florida; a primary residence in Mountain Brook, Alabama; a restored farmhouse outside of Atlanta; and a Southern Living Idea House on the Gulf Coast of Texas. I chose these four examples because they feature neutral rooms that are richly textured. Tracery, a national design firm with studios in Rosemary Beach, Florida and Mountain Brook, Alabama, uses different tones of the same colors to create depth and interest. The spaces are pretty, but not precious. They are carefully edited to showcase the beauty of curves - found in staircases, wing chairs, and bathtubs. Many of the light fixtures are somewhat industrial - the glass orbs that appear in the beach house kitchen and the clear pendant hanging in the Gulf Coast laundry room, for example - but their pure shapes add both modernity and delicacy to the homes' cleaning and cooking spaces. In the interiors below, antiques appear youthful, mirrored surfaces and glass add glamour, and metal pendants that look like vintage tubs ground more feminine elements. Take a look . . .

"Hot pink hydrangeas bring the dining room alive, and the mix of cane-back and slipcovered chairs keeps it interesting. The walls above the wainscoting are stenciled with a clear glaze in a historical pattern, Troupe Square, from Whitewall and Co. An antique beaded-crystal chandelier 'has an ethereal quality that doesn't overpower this small room,' [Paige] Schnell says."

"The kitchen has 'a vintage restaurant look,' [Doug] Davis says. 'A kitchen tiled from floor to ceiling is a workhorse kind of thing.' Tiles are Akdo's Mini Brick. Lee's Dual Seat Counter Benches accommodate the family's four children at the island. The hood over the Wolf range was made by a metalworker, who had car paint matched to Benjamin Moore China White. "A perfectly worn painted table breaks up the sea of white tile and carries on the farmhouse look. White subway tiles by Daltile pair with octagonal tiles on the floor. The charcoal-colored grout remains true to the period style. Let an antique find inspire your wall color. The pretty pale green walls are painted Spinach White by Sherwin-Williams. Tuck extra storage into small rooms by using woven baskets. The natural material also adds warm texture to the space."

"Paige [Schnell] designed a custom antiqued mirror backsplash for the stove. It reflects light and gives the cook a glimpse of the room behind her, or her guests seated at the bar. Installed in 14 3/4 inch by 17 1/4 inch pieces, the backsplash 'has a casual look and is easy to keep up. It already has a vintage appearance, so you really can't see spots on it,' says Paige. The aged mirror is a nice counterpoint to the sleek stainless steel stove and the bright white cabinets."

"Paige [Schnell] balanced beauty and utility with her countertop choices - Calcutta marble on the island, and maple butcher block on either side of the stove. 'The extra-large piece of white marble lightens up the space and is beautiful on top of the espresso-colored cabinets,' she says. As contrast to the dark cabinets on the island, Paige selected unfinished cabinets for the rest of the kitchen and had them painted to match the crisp white trim. Sleek nickel hardware adds a modern touch to the Shaker-style cabinets."

"Influenced by train bunks, the architects designed a row of three built-in beds on the third floor loft, each lit with a marine-style sconce and closed off with curtains. Storage areas for the bunks line up across the hall, with a cubby and a drawer for each bed."

"Instead of a basic doorway between the downstairs bedroom and bath, the architects designed a glass wall as a divider, with grommeted curtain panels that can be pulled for privacy. The glass wall visually enlarges the space and adds a sense of calm to the dramatically stenciled room. The large floating bathtub invites relaxation and serenity."

"The second-floor Gulf-front porch, accessed from the family room, is the ideal spot from which to watch the sun rise and set. Two Adirondack chairs facing the water are the most fought-over seats in the house. Architects Jeff Dungan and Louis Nequette designed a horizontal rail, rather than conventional vertical pickets, for a seamless view."
