"Designers Barbara Westbrook and Kim Winkler opened the kitchen of an Atlanta house to the family room. 'The space had to accommodate a family of five, as well as a lovable golden retriever,' says Westbrook. 'The openness makes it easy for everyone to mingle and not feel separated. But it was important that the two rooms look coordinated.' They chose a neutral and white palette, with a mix of rustic antiques and unfussy contemporary pieces. Stainless steel Sub-Zero."

" 'For the living room, we wanted a pair of sofas that didn't look like the typical English roll-arms you see everywhere,' says Winkler. 'These are low, sleek, and long -- 94 inches -- and makes an enormous impact when you walk through the front door. I love the couture-ish effect of the slipcover barely dragging on the floor.' The designers added the interior shutters and painted the room Pratt and Lambert's Shadow Beige to match the limestone fireplace."

" 'The master bedroom is a soothing retreat,' says Westbrook. Iron and wood play seamlessy off the crisp white bed linens, the chunky textured linen curtains, and the overstuffed reading chair. Atlanta's Calhoun Design and Metalworks made the custom bed. The pair of oak table lamps and the antique rustic trumeau mirror are from South of Market. Tapestry pillows are by B. Viz Design."

"Atlanta-based architect Keith Summerour designed this South Carolina lake cottage to capture maximum natural light. He used wooden ceilings throughout and also designed the living room fireplace, made from local granite. At the back of the sofa, an 1890s Italian console serves as a dais for an antique sculptural horse, probably a French toy. Reproduction bobbin turned-leg chairs are from Jerry Pair. The custom reproduction hooked rug, designed to resemble older rugs throughout the house, is by Laura Fisher."

"All the antique American hooked rugs in the house, including those in the entryway, are from Rugs by Robinson. 'It's a charming, intimate area that I think could have been forgotten, but I'm glad we didn't. Adding beautiful textures to a new house is key, like the great walnut French buffet and the amazing fisherman's basket. And of course the antique French grandfather clock has such a beautiful presence,' says interior designer Barbara Westbrook."

"The breakfast room features an antique French trestle table from Erika Reade and an 1870s French bakery sign from Ainsworth-Noah. 'I love that French trestle table. It is a fabulous piece of furniture, about 10 feet long and 42 inches wide. It's hard to find an antique table that size that doesn't have a big apron going around it that makes it hard to sit,' Westbrook says."

"Creamy white walls painted in Donald Kaufman's DKC-5 in a flat finish give a fresh, light feeling to the master bedroom. The iron canopy bed, a custom piece by Westbrook Interiors, was manufactured by Charles Calhoun Metalworks. The Betina ivory coverlet came from Susan Shepard Interiors and the custom duvet is in Acron and Leaves, a Chelsea Editions cotton. Pillows are antique grain sacks. The Ratchet library chair by Dennis and Leen an the antique bobbin-leg side table are from Jerry Pair. The late 19th-century painted bench came from Linda Horsley Antiques."

"Petite sepia botanicals in antique gold-leaf frames were wrapped around the study to create continuity. Walls and trim are painted Benjamin Moore's Withall Brown in a satin finish; the ceiling is Benjamin Moore's Overcast in a flat finish. The Fireside wing chair by Dennis and Leen is upholstered in blue and brown herringbone wool from Holland and Sherry. You wouldn't believe the number of people who pass through it and say they're dying to get into that bathtub,' Westbrook says.
