Virginia Museum of Fine Arts: Fine Arts and Flowers

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I spent some time today at the <a href="http://vmfa.museum/" target="_blank">Virginia Museum of Fine Arts</a> enjoying the exhibit "Fine Arts and Flowers." The Council of VMFA is presenting this program in which members of the Garden Club of Virginia, Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs, and Garden Clubs of Virginia have created floral designs inspired by works of art from the VMFA's permanent collections. The exhibit is free and open to the public through Sunday, November 9. But his <i>Bacchante and Infant Faun</i>, well-received at the Paris Salon of 1894, garnered the most comment and controversy. Placed on view at the Boston Public Library, a life-size version of this nude figure shocked public sensibility. <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Rachel Lambert Mellon, Listerine heiress and widow of Paul Mellon, son of one of the world's richest financiers, died on March 17, 2014 at the age of 103.
