" 'I've always loved lavender. To me, it's such a comfort color, particularly in the bedroom. It sort of lulls you to sleep. This has a little gray in it, which keeps it calm. If I wanted to mix it up, I'd throw in some navy or olive green. Because this shade is so subdued, it works well with just about any printed fabric. It's also a great backdrop for arts,' " says Kim Gilhool. California Paints "Faded Lilac 7490W."

"Designer Colette van den Thillart transformed her Toronto home into a lovely 'Frenchified' space. The lilac-and-white master suite was inspired by Canada's northern light. The headboard was custom designed by Colette. A Belgian-oak settee upholstered with faux fur huddles with tufted slipper chairs in the luxurious sitting area."

"A canopy encloses not only the bed but the entire room, in a master bedroom designed by Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz. 'By using fabric to soften the room and create this space, you forget that you are in a small room and it makes you feel as if you are in a huge bed,' says Noriega-Ortiz. The use of blue behind white makes the color feel soft and inviting."
