Before she was Alice, she was Charlotte - or "Charley" - in Tom Ford's 2009 film, A Single Man, which was based on the novel by Christopher Isherwood.

Dan Bishop was in charge of Production Design in the film, and Ian Phillips handled Art Direction. Amy Wells was in charge of Set Decoration. Here is a photo of Charley's dressing table:

I have tried in vain to identify the dressing table fabric. China Seas Lyford Background (Shrimp on White) by Quadrille Fabrics is the closest alternative I can find:

Jonathan Adler offers a furry chair that would make a glamorous addition to a dressing room:

Maxime Lounge Chair offered by Jonathan Adler.
"A chair should look as good from the back as the front. Super-minimalist and sculptural, our Maxime Chair is a seating masterpiece. The brass metal base and crisscross back add a dose of hard glamour, while the rich fabrics and soft curves nod to Mid-Century chic. Signature sabots on the legs add classic polish, making this the perfect lounge chair to add bold punctuation to any room."

"Nepal Chair by Paola Navone for Baxter"
Designer Harry Heissmann: "I call this a va-va-va-voom chair—I can imagine a Vargas girl sitting on it to put on her marabou slippers. It would be great at a dressing table in a ladies' boudoir." Designer Kim Alexandriuk: "It's petite, ideal for someone on the shorter side. The Mongolian lamb fur is lovely—cushy and cozy. It has a sexiness that makes you want to keep petting it." 22" w. × 25" h. × 22" d.; $3,549; ddcnyc.com

Stray Dog Designs offers a couple of different lamps similar to Charley's floral lighting:
Laura Lamp by Stray Dog Designs.
"Full of movement and life, the Laura lamp has pretty, pretty dahlias blooming from her stalk. The base is made from iron and papier mache and is then painted with a low-VOC paint. The oval shaped paper shade is white and the mouth blown glass finial is clear. Handmade in Mexico."

"Pretty poppies bloom from the delicate papier mache base. The Jarmin is crowned with an oval paper shade and a mouth blown glass finial in clear. Handcrafted in Mexico. Hand painted with low-VOC paint in any of our gorgeous hues."

Heather Clawson of Habitually Chic identified the ikat on Charley's headboard as Tilbury Lapis by Laura Ashley through Kravet:

I just found this fabric on the Ballard Designs website:

Calico offers Tilbury Lapis as well:

Calico also offers the option to create a custom upholstered headboard:
"Julia Headboard" by Calico.

This Kravet fabric is similar to Tilbury:
"Grosso's simple color scheme continues in the master bedroom where texture and pattern add interest. The shade of gray in the Kravet fabric enveloping the bed harmonizes with terrace walls outside. A Baker chaise covered in silk mohair provides a spot to relax. An antique Oushak carpet is delightful underfoot."

Tamara Mellon's living room in Bridgehampton, New York, features a version of Charley's sectional:
"In the living room of fashion designer Tamara Mellon’s Bridgehampton, New York, home, the velvet-covered sectional sofa is by Room and Board, the pair of Milo Baughman sofa tables is from the 1960s, and the Almond Zigmund sculptures atop them are from R. E. Steele Antiques; the prints above the mantel are by Sol LeWitt, from his Star series, and the silk-and-wool rug is by Bentley."

Laura Santos selected a curved sofa by Vladimir Kagan for her Manhattan home:
"In the double-height living room, a curvaceous Vladimir Kagan sofa is arranged with a vintage cocktail table from Galerie Van den Akker, a 1940s French floor lamp, and a Dune bench upholstered in Mongolian lamb; the diptych is by Mark Francis, the curtains are of a Kravet linen, and the walls are painted in a Benjamin Moore white."

The pattern in this Luke Irwin carpet reminds me of the ikat on Charley's bed, the Mongolian lamb bench calls to mind the chair in her dressing room, and the Vladimir Kagan sofa repeats the curves of her living room sectional. "I love the clean lines and sculptural forms of midecentury furniture," designer/homeowner Laura Santos told Elle Decor:
"A travertine-clad fireplace punctuates the far end of the living room; the carpet is by Luke Irwin."

Despite this post's emphasis on the visual aspect of A Single Man, director Tom Ford describes the film as "a message about living in the present - appreciating all the small things in life that we often forget about, overlook. [We] think we're gonna be happy when we get all these material things . . . I could really relate to that . . . so in a sense this is my midlife crisis on screen." [Source: A Single Man's UK Premiere on IMDb.]

Remember the small things . . .
